VA and Medicaid Burial Support

VA Burial Support

For service-related deaths, the VA will pay up to $2000 toward burial expenses for.  For non-service-related deaths, the VA will pay up to $762 toward burial and funeral expenses if the person was hospitalized or $300 if the person was not hospitalized.  Also, the VA will pay $762 toward plot-interment allowance if the person was not buried in a national cemetery.  Visit the VA website for more information on VA Death Benefits.

Medicaid Burial Support

Medicaid does not pay for burials, but will allow a recipient of Medicaid to set aside "burial funds" that are clearly designated for the client's or spouse's burial-related expenses.  Property set aside for this purpose cannot be co-mingled and the property can only include certain contracts or funds.
